MASTERCLASSES

Master creative writing skills to get 11+ and Year 7 ready.

Expert small group sessions that build confidence, skill and pleasure in writing – when it matters most.

I'm Greg. It's nice to meet you...

I love my job! I’m a qualified teacher: “outstanding” rated with nearly ten years of experience. Now I run my tuition business full time.

Year 5 and 6 are essential times for mastering creative writing skills.

The 11+ is just round the corner, and an increasing number of schools are choosing to prioritise English and Maths over reasoning subjects.

My sessions will help your child master the broad range of skills they need for the 11+.

Not only this, but Year 5 and 6 is where children master what they need to get off to a strong start in Year 7, which then puts them on track for GCSE success.  This might feel far away, but momentum really matters.

My sessions are also for those who want to help their child get into the highest English set that they can, and build essential momentum through to GCSE success.

What's included?

My groups are limited to 6 students, enabling me to give focused attention to each child.

Weekly lessons on Zoom with me, a qualified teacher with nearly 10 years’ experience.

Your child’s weekly homework will receive a voice note with targets to help them take the next step.

If you miss a session, or if you want to review anything, lesson recordings will be available.

How do the sessions work?

📆Half-Term Blocks

  • Sessions run in 5–7 week blocks, aligned with school half terms

  • Each block includes 2–3 different writing genres or styles — e.g. narrative, persuasive, descriptive, informative

  • This allows for breadth and depth, without rushing or overwhelming

  • Pricing: Sessions are £45 each, billed in half-termly blocks

🔄 Cyclical, Not Linear

  • Genres repeat across the year, giving students multiple opportunities to revisit each style

  • With each return, they:

    • Build confidence

    • Layer in new techniques

    • Refine their voice

  • Skills develop gradually and securely, rather than being “ticked off” and left behind

👥 Tailored Support, Anytime Start

  • Your child can join at any point in the year.   I can personalise support to their current level and help them slot in smoothly.

Real results from real students

After working with me, this student saw a surge in his school-assessed English grade – from a C to an A* –  to the delight of his parents and teacher.

This student had really strong ability, but with practise, encouragement and lots of hard work, she secured her place in a highly competitive school, and saw a big jump in her writing performance at her current school.

This student had repeated ‘light-bulb’ moments in our sessions together, and was enthused and excited to attend more and keep progressing.

Who are the groups for?

It’s for children who want to be set up and ready for their 11+ exam.

It’s also for children who want to be ready for Year 7.

Your child does not need to be sitting a creative writing 11+ exam to benefit from this group.

It’s for children who are already doing well at English— those working at ‘secure’ or ‘greater depth’. These kinds of students thrive in my sessions, because I’m able to offer them more challenge and engagement than what’s possible in a school classroom.

If your child is finding English to be a struggle, this group might not be the best fit – please do feel free to get in touch about 1:1 support instead.

FAQ

Yes – please take a look at my Google reviews, or the testimonials above. They’re almost all from families that I tutored online.

Yes. The groups are deliberately small—maximum six students—so I can give each child time and attention. I have a wide range of methods to keep children engaged and
participating. As well as this, I give personalised audio feedback on homework each week, so your child will have their achievements celebrated and next steps explained on a very regular basis.

If I have any concerns, I will get in touch very promptly through WhatsApp or email.

I also check in at the end of the block with a written summary. As one parent noted:

“We were provided with feedback along the way and had opportunities to discuss the progress.”

If you have any concerns or questions at other times, I am available and very responsive on WhatsApp.

My lessons aren’t tailored to specific schools, and that’s ok: the skills I teach are applicable to a very broad range of schools. If your child is preparing for an 11+ or entrance exam that includes writing, my lessons will almost certainly help to boost their scores.

Indeed, many children who are sitting for Grammar schools, or for the ISEB Pretest also benefit from these lessons. English skills in one area always improve English skills in another.

We work hard, and the expectations are high. But it doesn’t feel heavy. I keep the energy up. One review put it best:

“There was an element of fun to the sessions which helped her engagement without compromising on the work.

I record each session (just me on screen, not the students) and upload it along with the slides. That way, your child can catch up if needed. The recordings stay available until three weeks after the last session.

I charge £35 a session. Payment must be made for prepaid blocks of 5 or 6 weeks (depending on the length of the term). Once payment has been made, it is non-refundable.
